New Girobank EMV Chip Card

Girobank is pleased to announce the introduction of the new Girobank debit chip card, another smart feature of our island’s most complete & convenient current account.

The new debit chip card has an EMV (Europay, Mastercard and VISA) chip and will offer improved security quality. This chip technology is a modern standard accepted worldwide.

In order to start using your new Girobank debit chip card you need to activate your card. Activation can occur in the following ways:

  • Visit any Girobank branch where our friendly staff will guide you through the activation process. Please be reminded to bring a valid ID and your new card.  For branch location click here (locations)
  • Activation can also be done through any Girobank ATM.
Girobank’s ATM’s have also been upgraded and the new card readers will require the new debit card to stay in the reader. So from now on always insert, leave your debit chip card in the reader and follow the instructions on the ATM Screen. Otherwise you could damage your card or the reader.

When activating your Girobank debit chip card at our ATM locations, please follow these steps:
  • Insert your new card into the ATM
    (IMPORTANT: to prevent damage, do not take your chip card out before
  • the process is completely finished)
  • Enter your current PIN
  • Change your PIN
  • Your card has been activated
  • Take your card out: it’s ready for use

Distribution of the Girobank debit chip cards have already started. We kindly ask you to keep an eye out for a special delivery in the following days.
